A lot of people go through their life not ever leaving the country and in my opinion I find that ludicrous. Not only does traveling provide you opportunities, new friends from around the world, life time memories, problem solving skills but it opens your eyes to a whole new world. At the age of 18 I left on my first journey to Cuba soon after (2 months later) Dominican and as the years went on my affection for travel grew with a trip to Jamaica, Cuba, Belize, Vancouver (winter), Cuba, Vancouver (summer), Peru and now Nepal.
This wonderful path in life that has been passed on to me is all thanks to the most inspirational women who I call travel buddy (Aunt Shirley). She was the one who brought me on my first trip ever which was Cuba hence to why I travel there so much. The amount of love I have for my travel buddy and Cuba is infinite. Unfortunately all that got ripped away from me with the death of my Aunt as she was on vacation in Cuba. This took a hard hit to me personally as we had experienced so much together from south to north of Cuba and to the beaches of Jamaica all so magical but all so short lived and so much more was planned. Before she left on her trip to Cuba we talked about our future travel ideas to Cuba and her exact words said were “next trip we are going together travel buddy” and I then responded “sure thing travel buddy love you” then gave her a hug and kiss and walked off soon hoping to see her after her trip so I could listen to her amazing travel stories. Horrible news never comes at a right time and to me soon as I received the news I immediately looked back to our memories in paradise and felt my heart drop and nothing was being thought of but just me and her laughing and swimming in clear blue water watching the little fishes nibbling at our toes. Part of me wishes I could have taken the opportunity to have gone on that last trip with her but work got in the way.
Now I live by the quote “in the end it's not the years in life that count it's the life in your years” words I think my wise and beautiful aunt would use. She was always living her life to the fullest.
